The original SPITFIRE is a DOS application. It can be explored on a current computer with an appropriate DOS-compatible environment, but doing so requires more than launching a single executable: a working BBS also expects configuration files, directories, batch files and, depending on the setup, supporting utilities.

Guidance in preparation

A tested, preservation-minded walkthrough is being developed for this section. Until it is complete, the archive avoids prescribing an unverified configuration or implying that historical software should be exposed directly to the public Internet.

The original packages remain available in the software catalog for research and carefully isolated experimentation.
