Current source and the downloadable preview
D1–D3 are complete, accepted and published. Current source uses native board schema 37 (stored data layout) and CIRCUITNET-NG protocol 1.4. These version numbers describe different contracts.
What works today
| Milestone | Accepted capability |
|---|---|
| D1 | Authenticated stopped-board updates, verified pre-upgrade recovery, manual backups/restores, storage policy, and compatible runtime rollback preserving current data. |
| D2 | Returning login, new-user registration, duplicate-session protection, safe time accounting, stale-session recovery and safe concurrent profile/preference changes. |
| D3 | Menus, conference selection, paged lists, next/previous reading, actual reply threads, new-message scans, saved read positions, posts/replies and permission checks at save. |
Real Apple Silicon Telnet acceptance covers the caller and messaging journeys. Intel macOS compilation passes. Broad real Windows, BSD and Linux runtime acceptance is not claimed. Multi-node protections are accepted; wider real-world hardening remains planned.
What is still being built?
D4 Files caller UX and transfers is next. Existing file and transfer components are not a claim that the complete caller journey has passed D4. Sysop operations, further multi-node hardening, Doors, packaging/services, classic migration and final public-preview acceptance remain ahead. The line editor is supported; saved drafts and a full-screen editor are outside D3.
Which download has these features?
The older 0.1.0 Development Preview is an Apple Silicon macOS archive for controlled evaluation. It predates the current source and D1–D3; no new binary archive was published as part of those milestones. Build the accepted source for the current features.
Older 0.1.0 prerelease · verification and installation. Keep the release's own instructions with its archive.
There is no automatic remote update channel or finished installer. spitfire update uses a configured, authenticated local release source for an adopted installation.
Networking is a separate accepted foundation
CircuitNET NG C1–C9 is accepted at protocol 1.4. Independent Python interoperability proves tested direct-link behavior, not full independent HOST forwarding. CircuitNET applications remain closed. Other accepted network adapters do not imply live public FidoNet membership.
